This book provides access to one of the Authors’ video in which their entire shooting was recorded on their Police issued, body-worn, video camera. This element really allows the reader to be taken through a deadly force incident, step-by-step, like never done before. Many citizens have questions on how to act, or possibly avoid negative confrontations with law enforcement. Also, Society has questions about why deadly force is necessary, and when it should and could be avoided. The Authors use their own opinions and experiences to provide insight of Officer involved shootings, and address valid and/or questionable tactics. Learn the typical day of a patrol officer. Wow-this is a must read for everyone! I loved this book from the second I started reading it! I loved the sense of humor that both authors had and the great behind the scenes stories. My heart was breaking reading about all the things that followed after doing the only thing that could be done. Knowing that after the officer's shooting, the woman's own mother told everyone that she knew that the officer HAD to shoot her daughter (to save his own life and all of those around him INCLUDING the mother!!) only to have her recant some time later after being "egged on" by the public made me sad to think of what's happening today in the world around us. North Carolina truly lost one of their finest! I am already looking forward to the sequel, or volume two!Product details

Policing in Black and White is an engaging read that gives honest insight into the reality of life as a law enforcement officer, from the perspective of two people who lived it. The authors lay it all on the table, both good and bad, and open the door for genuine dialogue about issues that impact not only individual officers and their departments, but society as a whole. All people, whether members of the law enforcement community or not, would benefit from reading this book.
This is a fantastic read! Anyone curious about what a Law Enforcement Officer must deal with on a regular basis, the situations they can find themselves in, a taste of what must be dealt with, and the ramifications of their actions, this book must be read. It's written in easy to understand language and yet gives the reader a taste of the stress that they must endure. I highly recommend this book. I already had great respect for our Officers but after reading this I can't help but feel the need to thank each one that I come in contact with. It's unfair how society treats them and especially the "fake" news. Get this book.!
Great true first person accounts!! These guys are out there saving us from The ugly part of society that we live in But don’t always notice! They are abused, ridiculed, yelled at & protested against. They should be honored, respected and made to feel like heroes!!
This book shed much light on the lives of police officers and the complex issues surrounding both their public and private lives. Before reading this book, I had not realized all of the training police go through and how that training enables them to make split-second decisions that save, or sometimes take, lives. It also made me realize that these officers are constrained by politics, budget, and other factors that make their jobs more difficult than I had imagined. What encouraged me the most was reading that Officer Bloch is a proponent of making policing safer for all by using more non-lethal methods of controlling a situation. I have a new respect for police officers after reading this book and highly recommend it.
I have always respected cops, and I was brought up to know it was not an easy job. After reading this book I have an even greater respect. I do not know how a man/woman can work these shifts day after day. You feel the total dedication to the badge both of these men had. It is definitely not for the weak of heart. Both men express the emotional impact this has had on their families. Every day they hoped to live to see their wives and children at the end of their shift. Read this book for yourself; it will definitely have an impact on you. ESM
I don't typically read books like this, so I expected to suffer through a bunch of technical language and police jargon. That was not at all the case. This book was well written and super easy to follow. It felt like I was sitting on the front porch, listening to police stories from a couple of favorite uncles. These guys use real, everyday language to offer an eye-opening perspective that few outside of law enforcement could ever have - but one that everyone should endeavor to gain...especially now - with all the social media pomp and gush. Before you make another opinion about a police officer involved shooting or policing in today's society, read this book.
This book gives great firsthand insights to the emotional, physical and psychological effects officers go through when involved in an officer involved shooting. For non-law enforcement these stories will educate on the basic thought process and reasoning on what law enforcement officers have to deal with day in and out. This should be a recommended read for anyone who has an interest in the law enforcement profession. This book also describes the harsh and most times unfortunate after effects of officer involved shootings. In one of the author's stories, it describes the media's lack of responsibility in reporting the facts of the incident correctly. As a law enforcement officer, I got a better understanding of the realities of an OIS and what these guys went through. Kudos to these guys for sharing there stories (even the funny and embarassing parts of the book).
